What People Say
Stories of people we've helped
LUCY -attended a family cycling session and then the women only cycling sessions to give her more confidence and get fitter. We were able to provide Lucy with a bike and a buggy for her two young children through our recycling scheme. She uses them daily when dropping her son at nursery and then going shopping. She has become well known for using the bike and buggy. Lucy said ”it is much easier than using a pram and walking a 3 year old and I am getting fitter and de-stressing”.
SAIMA -Saima had not ridden a bike since she was a girl and was not sure if she still could. At first she was very nervous and wobbly. We taught her and her boys to ride in the half term and we gave them a bike each. Now they all ride regularly as a family and cycling has given them confidence to achieve and try new things in their lives. Saima said" Having been giving the bikes we now have the freedom to cycle to different places as a family in the holidays. I am getting fitter, losing weight and feel much more positive in myself"
“Kirklees Council has been working with Streetbikes for a number of years. In this time Gill and her team have changed the lives of literally 100’s of children providing access to bikes and cycling activities throughout the district”
Neil Jones Senior Sports Development Officer Kirklees Council
“Streetbikes is the one engagement provision that the children in KNH priority areas keep asking for over and over again. The children never get bored of it and us as staff love being part of this beneficial provision.”
Jay Micklethwaite Community Engagement Officer Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing
“Streebikes has inspired our students. They have given them confidence to ride safely and well and in some cases the gift of a bike has given them true freedom. The positive nature of streetbikes is embedded in our students and they are confident and safe on rides. They even turn up in their holidays not to miss out!!”
